Since leaving the Royal College of Art in 2002, I have developed a unique new process in handmade plastics. I laminate acrylic dust into thin slices which resemble agate that are both lightweight and vivid in colour. It is like working with colour as a material. Compared with acrylic as paint, acrylic as dust has a much wider palette, from soft opaque pastel shades to glowing flourescents. Also, colours do not mix when fused which allows me to produce a variety of multi-coloured and speckled finishes.
The 'Dust Collection' comprises of a wide selection of earrings. Also featured are necklaces with magentic catches which lay flat against the skin, pendants, brooches, and 'wrap' bangles where colours merge from one to another. This year I have begun a heat folding process giving these slices an added dimension. My new colour ranges for 2008-09 are burgandy, kahki, purple and duck egg.
